About me

Let me introduce myself — I’m Therèse de Groot, a chartered accountant (RA). Over the years, I’ve seen the profession from different perspectives: as an external and internal auditor, and as an accountant in business. My background as an RA and PhD helps me bridge the gap between academia, policy, and professional practice. I believe that connecting these worlds is what truly drives innovation and shapes the accountant of the future.

During my PhD, I discovered just how much fascinating academic research is being done in the fields of auditing, reporting, and internal control. But I also found that many of those articles can be quite dense and difficult to digest. That’s why I started creating infographics based on studies that intrigue me and make me think.
I’m especially fascinated by the human side behind the numbers and controls.

By sharing these infographics, I hope to make academic insights more accessible to other professionals — and to encourage reflection on what these findings might mean in their own context. My motivation in everything I do: strengthening the future of the accounting profession by connecting knowledge, encouraging critical reflection, and opening up new perspectives.

And to the researchers out there — perhaps my analysis and infographics don’t fully capture the depth of your work. But hopefully, you’ll see them as a fresh perspective — the view of an enthusiastic professional with a genuine passion for the field.
