Sustainability is high on the agenda. But what role do controllers see for themselves in this? This study compares the perspectives of controllers and sustainability staff.
It’s fascinating to see the differences in how the two groups view things. The differences are significant in several areas:
- Knowledge & complexity: 55% of sustainability staff mention the lack of know-how among controllers as a barrier, and 43% point to the topic’s complexity. Controllers see this much less (28% and 18% respectively).
- Management access: 28% of controllers mention their better access to management as a reason for involvement, and 63% see themselves as business partners. Sustainability staff recognize this far less (9% and 18%).
Are controllers too optimistic about their role — or are they simply not positioning themselves strongly enough?
